Tbilisi: Georgia’s Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture has been planning to implement a new straw management plan. The ministry will implement this plan with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank.
According to information shared by Ministry sources, the strategy for sustainable sludge management and reuse is beginning actively in some parts. The ministry has engaged an Italian company, IDROSTUDI SRL to execute the scheme’s implementation plan and international experts will be involved in it.
Solomon Pavliashvili, the Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia also held a meeting recently. At the meeting the challenges in the mentioned direction and the main issues of the project were discussed. The minister also interacted with representatives of the Asian Development Bank and the company “IDROSTUDI SRL.”
The project will be implemented over a period of one year. Moroeer’s main goal is to develop a sludge management plan in Georgia and implement a pilot program as per Georgia’s terms and conditions.
It is worth noting that the project includes four main tasks. The first one involves studying the current situation and planning further steps, taking into account various challenges. The formation of the legal framework will also be completed by considering international standards.
The project will also include special training for all other stakeholders, including state and private sector personnel. This will help to develop one pilot project in selected municipalities easily.
During his address at the meeting the minister Solomon Pavliashvili added that , “Considering the fact that the amount of sludge has increased in Georgia and new treatment facilities have been created, it is necessary to carry out sludge management measures. Sludge management and recycling are needed for our country, and the active involvement of the state and private sector in this direction is also important.”
Notably with the advancement of industrialisation, the number of issues of waste management has also increased. The problem has become so serious in some countries that it prompts them to take strict action.
