Georgia: In order to popularize agrotourism, an information tour was organized in Tusheti. Representatives of tourism companies and media took part in the tour organized by the National Tourism Administration and the Association of Biological Farms “Elkana”. The participants of the tour visited Omalo, Diklo, Shenakko, Dartlo, Gometsri Gorge, Jvarboseli and Chesho.

Representatives of tourism companies and media visited Tushuri cheese producers. The tasting of local products was organized. The participants of the tour got to know the tourist places, historical monuments and culture of Tusheti.

“The goal is to diversify potentially developing tourism products in the country. One of these priority products is agrotourism. Accordingly, with the active involvement of the National Tourism Administration, an action plan for the development of agrotourism has already been prepared, within the framework of which we are conducting an info-tour in Tusheti together with the Association of Biological Farms “Elkana”.

The purpose of the tour is for the participants to get to know not only the tourist potential of Tusheti but also the tourist products offered by small and medium entrepreneurs”, said Medea Janiashvili, Acting Head of the National Tourism Administration.

“Many people come to Tusheti for hiking and horse-riding tours, which is unusual, but it must be said that local traditional products and dishes are an important component in such tours, and this should not be lost, and for this purpose, more efforts are needed to increase local production.

It is not enough to receive a guest, spend the night, and limit yourself to breakfast. There needs to be more connection between the food producer and the service provider”, said Lela Khartishvili, representative of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.

A special guide and action plan was developed for the development of agrotourism, in the preparation of which the following participants: the National Tourism Administration, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization FAO, various agencies of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture and industry associations – Elkana, Farmers Association, Gastronomy Association of Georgia and international experts from Italy.

The project aims to promote Georgian agricultural farms, create and diversify tourist services, and develop thematic tourist trails.
