Tbilisi: The Republic of Georgia is all set to receive the amount of twenty-six million euro from the (EBRD) the European Bank for reconstruction and development. This amount will be utilized for the Tbilisi waste recycling project.
In this regard on February 20, 2024, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Georgia signed a loan agreement. The document was signed by the Minister of Finance of Georgia namely Lasha Khutsishvili and the Caucasus Regional Director of the Bank of Europe for Reconstruction and Development Alkis Vrienio Drakinos.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the loan funds will be used to set up an appropriate waste treatment infrastructure, which includes the construction of a sorting facility and materials recovery facility as well.
Another project will also be implemented by the Municipality of Tbilisi through the “Tbilservice Group” Ltd. Therefore the contract for the implementation of the project was signed by David Pachulia the director of Tbilservice Group Ltd and the Caucasus Regional Director of the Bank for Reconstruction and Development of Europe Alkis Vrienio Drakinos.
The funds will be utilized to establish essential waste treatment infrastructure including the construction of sorting and materials recovery facilities. The representative of the Tbilisi city hall said that they would implement the project as there was a big problem for proper waste management.
As per them more financial aid will be provided if required in the future as well so that proper arrangement can be effected under the waste management programs.It is to be specifically mentioned that waste management has become the biggest problem not just in Georgia but across the globe.
The concerned departments and environmental agencies are facing many challenges for proper waste management. Waste management is also a big issue that is discussed at various forums at the international level.
The international environmental organization has already expressed their concern about the growing problem of waste management.
