Tbilisi: The Deputy Health Minister of Georgia, Tamar Gabunia stated that the treatment of 300 children with cancer will be fully funded by the state. It’s about modern standards and high-tech equipment facilities, where, in one space, there will be a full range of medical services, both diagnostic and treatment, that the patients will receive.
It is noteworthy that oncology patients will be able to get such an important, expensive and high-tech medical service as protonotherapy. On this issue, the Ministry of Health has already started research on the international market so that different countries of the world may express their interest in this regard.
According to Tamar Gabunia, Deputy Minister of Health, the model will significantly improve both the solutions and the quality of medical services in the current period.
“Pediatric oncology has long been a priority of the Ministry. In the past year, active cooperation has been started with Israel’s “Ikhilov Clinic” and Turkish Medical Clinic, as well as Spain.’
At this point, the drafting of the project is practically complete. Each year, sadly, up to 150 children are still diagnosed with cancer.
Offering high quality modern services for children will remind you how important it is. So much so, this project, which the Ministry has prepared, in collaboration with foreign clinics, for every child to have the opportunity to fully receive medical services, using the latest modern high-tech facilities.
Protonotherapy is among them. Also, using robotic technology, manufacturing surgical interventions and other interventions that allow us to save their lives. This will take extra service, but it will be a salvation for children who need it the most today.
Talk about 300 kids a year. That’s 150 new cases and children who have already been diagnosed with cancer. We believe that this model will significantly improve both solutions and the quality of medical services in the current period.
Work will be done here, in Georgia, on the development of oncological services and those partner clinics, which were selected for participation in the program, on the basis of certain criteria, will help us on the spot, to prepare Georgian doctors and to strengthen the service in the future,” Tamar Gabunia said.
The budget for diagnosis and treatment of children abroad has already been approved. As a result, children with a cancer diagnosis will have the opportunity to receive high quality and appropriate medical care.
