Ukraine’s Ambassador to Georgia, Igor Dolgov, has thanked Georgia’s Government for the latter’s decision to provide financial aid worth one million GEL ($315,000/€279,842) to the country amid Russia’s invasion into Ukraine.

The Government stated it would allocate the fund from its reserve fund to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine amid the crisis.

Moreover, the Georgian Government also said that the Ministry of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs would use this fund to buy pharmaceutical and medical supplies for war victims.

On a visit to Georgia’s Ministry of Health, Dolgov said the type of financial aid sent on the initiative of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili was “Utmost priority” for Ukraine, as casualties soared up in locations of the ongoing dispute.

In his remarks, Dolgov stated, “We appreciate any expression of support and solidarity. We need practical help – medical equipment and tools for individuals in the field.”

Furthermore, thousands of first-aid items, over 30 types of medicines, and oxygen switches are among the items included in the package, which will be sent by Georgia to Ukraine via Poland on Sunday.

The development comes as the Georgian Prime Minister faces widespread criticism for controversial remarks about Ukraine and the clear-cut rejection to join international sanctions against Russia.

On February 24, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine after President Vladimir Putin announced a “special military operation.” Earlier on February 21, in breach of the Minsk agreements, Moscow recognised its proxies in Donetsk and Luhansk.

Earlier, Russian troops build-up in and around the neighbouring nation – Ukraine for more than a month. Furthermore, it demanded that NATO reject the 2008 Bucharest pledge on accepting Ukraine and Georgia. It further demanded from the US to not to build military bases in former Soviet Republics.
