Georgia unveils new vision for Scientific Grant Competitions

On the initiative of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Shota Rustaveli’s new vision of grant competitions of Georgian National Science Foundation was held.
The event was opened by the Minister of Education, Science and Youth, Givi Mikanadze, who addressed the audience with a welcome speech and introduced the initiatives planned for the development of science within the framework of the higher education system reform.
The minister emphasized strengthening the science field and promoting the quality of research, and in this regard, he focused attention on the role of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation.
Zviad Gabisonia, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth, presented the presentation of the new vision of grant competitions. The Deputy Minister paid special attention to the importance of the state grant competitions, objectives, priorities, conditions of competition, and mechanisms for evaluating projects.
The conversation touched on Rustaveli Foundation’s bilateral and multilateral international programs, the prospects of deepening international cooperation in scientific research and activating relations with international organizations, other priority projects, achievements, and plans of the organization.
Within the framework of the new vision of grant competitions, in 2026, it will be announced for the first time – State Scientific Grant Competition, State Scientific Grant Contest for supporting the research and popularization of Georgian Cultural Heritage in the Vatican, Scientific Grant Competition for the support and development of Georgian centers abroad, Regional State Universities Targeted scientific research grant competition for organization and development and baccalaureate Targeted grant competition for students.
In addition, the current year’s State Scientific Grant Competition has been announced. Teimuraz Dochvir, General Director of the National Scientific Foundation of Georgia, Shota Rustaveli, addressed the attending community.
The event was attended by Mariam Lashki, Chairman of the Committee on Education, Science and Youth Affairs of the Parliament of Georgia, Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia Giorgi Jincharadze, First Deputy Minister of Education and Sports of the Autonomic Republic of Adjara Jemal Surmanidze, Chairman of the Education and Culture of the Tbilisi City Council Committee Beka Odisharia, Executive, Legislative, local government, higher education institutions, research institutes, Georgia Representatives of the National Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
