Georgia: In Paris, the youngest member of the Georgian delegation – 19-year-old Georgian parataekwondoist Ana Japaridze (52 kg) won the bronze medal on the first day of the Paris Summer Paralympic Games.

She defeated Egypt’s Salma Ali Abd Moneem Hassan in her debut Paralympic Games and won Georgia’s first medal.

In her journey to the bronze medal, Ana Japaridze displayed unparalleled courage and determination. She overcame formidable opponents, including US representative Ariana Paolo Aguila Ramos in the first match, Paralympic vice-champion Maryam Betul Chavdar in the quarterfinals, and Iranian Zahra Rahim in the semifinals. Her resilience and fighting spirit are truly admirable.

The competition of the Georgian para-athletes was a testament to the unity and national pride of the country. The presence of the Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports of Georgia Nikoloz Aznaurashvili and President of the Paralympic Committee Rati Ionatamishvili underscored the unwavering support of the nation for its athletes.

Ana Japaridze is the third Georgian woman parasport who could win a medal at the Paralympics. Nina Tibilashvili and Ina Kaldan won silver medals at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. Notably, he won a bronze medal for the first time at the Paralympics of Georgia.

Another Georgian parataekwondoist Lia Chachibai (47 kg) competed at the Paris Paralympics. He confronted Moroccan Nual Larifi and gave up the meeting with minimal difference – 11:12.

It is noteworthy that Georgian parataekwondoists competed for the first time at the Paralympics. On September 30, parataekwondoist Giorgi Nikoladze, parathrower Lado Chincharauli, and parathrower David Kavtaradze will defend the honor of Georgia.
