The rehabilitation of the Writers’ House is in full swing. The work is being executed with the financial assistance of the National Agency for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia.
It is to be added that the rehabilitation process of the Georgian Writers’ House building is actively underway and according to the latest information all the problems in the building that caused the need for its rehabilitation will be completely eliminated in the near future with the financing of the National Agency for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia.
Specifically in 2023 a group of architects, restaurateurs and constructors inspected the building on-site before starting construction. This resulted in assessing the existing, quite difficult condition and developing a rehabilitation methodology. The main problem of the building was the solid foundation which caused cracks to develop.
The construction company completed the reinforcement works of foundations and walls in the first stage. However some circumstances during the work made it necessary to make changes and take additional measures in the rehabilitation process.
At first the concrete surface was drilled and anchors were fixed in the coals. Later on the monolithic wall and project tile were prepared and metal-concrete walls were installed in the basement. At the same time the existing basement floor space was filled to the project point and the basement floor tile was grouted.
The restoration process is currently in full swing. Cleaning, priming and injecting cracks in the wall with hydraulic sanding and plastering solutions are underway and will be completed very soon.
In addition the mural specialists continue to restore ornamentation by painting and plastering the museum’s ceiling and walls and renewing/painting the ceiling and walls. This progress is a testament to the dedication and expertise of the restoration team instilling optimism for the future of the Writers’ House.
The work is being carried out by the company “Ziba” Ltd” which won the electronic tender. The agency allocated 825123 GEL for jobs. This building which was the residence of the famous entrepreneur and philanthropist David Sarajishvili was built in 1903-1905. Since 1921 it has been a significant location for the Union of Artists and the Union of Writers of Georgia preserving the region’s cultural heritage.
