Tbilisi: With the support of the Georgian Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and the auspices of the Youth Agency of the Republic of Georgia, a youth camp was opened in Shaori, which will receive 768 youngsters in eight streams this year.

The Shaori camp was opened with a performance made by the participants. The national anthem of Georgia was performed, and at the end of the evening, there was a concert organized by “Theater Quartet” and David Shanidze.

The event was attended by Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia Thea Tsulukiani, Deputy Minister Irakli Giviashvili, State Trustee Racha-Lechkhumi and Lower Svaneti Parmen Margvelidze, Mayor of Ambrolauri Zviad (David) Mkheidze and representatives of the Youth Agency.

The Shaori Youth Camp brings together 96 participants aged 18-25 in one stream, selected in cooperation with partner agencies and higher education institutions.

In the first stream, the camp hosts students from various faculties of the Technical University of Georgia, university theater actors, dance ensemble and boys’ chapel members.

The purpose of the camp is to promote the social integration and inclusion of young people; access to active leisure for young people; the opportunity to receive informal education; the promotion of physical, spiritual and intellectual potential; the promotion of a healthy lifestyle; the promotion of the establishment of national and European values; the encouragement of patriotic values.

The camp program is five days long. The participants have the opportunity to be involved in sports and awareness activities needed to develop critical competencies. The activities under the camp program are carried out according to the methodology of informal education and the principles of youth activities.

While at the camp, young people take part in interactive educational meetings, Olympics and tournaments; in addition, they meet well-known athletes and artists in an informal setting.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, one stream will be allocated to youth displaced from the occupied territories of Georgia.

The Shaori camp infrastructure was completely renewed in 2022, and repair works were carried out this year as well. The Anaklia camp was officially opened in July and will receive 2400 young people in 10 streams this year.

It is noteworthy that the management of camps for diverse youth development is part of the State Youth Strategy, implemented by the SP Youth Agency, operating under the sphere of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth.

In 2022, after a three-year pause, Shaori Youth Camp, European School Summer Camp and Anaklia Youth Camp were opened in Racha with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
