Georgia: With the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, in order to strengthen inclusive education, a new project is starting in public schools, the goal of which is to improve the quality of education of students with special needs and disabilities, to strengthen the functional use of resource rooms, to introduce effective practices of transition from the general education level to the next level of education, and to establish parents’ educational clubs at the school base by way of foundation. The project is funded by the Norwegian government, in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the organization “Innovations for an Inclusive Society”.
In connection with the mentioned issue, a working meeting was held in the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, during which the representatives of the Ministry thanked the parties involved in the project for the work done in the direction of inclusive education and together with them, in order to adapt the educational process to the needs and interests of each child, innovative approaches and the possibilities of creating a student-oriented school environment and They discussed the challenges.
The key activities of the project are – assessing the needs related to resource rooms in the school and equipping them; Provision of trainings for school staff on issues of functional use of resource rooms, practices supporting the transition from school to the next level of education for children with special needs and disabilities, and in the direction of establishing parents’ clubs; supervision of the practice of teachers and specialists; Supporting practitioners in the process of establishing, functioning and providing transition support services for parenting clubs.
Within the framework of the project, 10 public schools across Georgia were selected – from Tbilisi, Rustavi, Marneuli, Telavi, Kutaisi, Kobuleti and Batumi. Vocational educational institutions and resource schools in the same cities and municipalities will also participate in it.
It is important that in order to achieve the goals defined within the framework of the new project and for the systematic introduction of innovative approaches, the work process will be carried out in close coordination with the agencies and structural units related to the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia – the Division of Inclusive Development, the Department of Development of General and Preschool Education, the Agency for Professional Skills, the National Agency for Professional Development of Teachers center.
Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, the United Nations Children’s Fund, the Agency for Skills Development, the National Center for Professional Development of Teachers, the organization “Innovations for an Inclusive Society” also took part in the event.
