Krakow National Museum to host large-scale exhibition dedicated to Georgia

Georgia: A large-scale exhibition dedicated to Georgian culture and history, “Golden Witness-Art of Georgia, “will be opened on April 18 in Poland’s Krakow National Museum. The Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia will support the opening.

The Georgian Minister of Culture, Sports, and Youth, Thea Tsulukiani, will attend the exhibition’s opening. It will last until September 15, 2024.

It should be noted that after the restoration of independence, this is an exhibition of unprecedented importance abroad about Georgia, and it is being held under the patronage of the Polish Minister of Culture.

The large-scale exposition will introduce European visitors to Georgia’s rich culture, masterpieces of Georgian art, and distinctive samples of martial arts. 

The works of the best representatives of Georgian modernism will be presented. For the first time, a number of Georgian artifacts or manuscripts preserved in various museums in Poland will be exhibited.

A total of 14 Georgian museums are actively participating in this grand exhibition, including the Shalva Amiranashvili State Museum of Art, Simon Janashia State Museum, Georgian Art Palace-Culture Museum, Tbilisi History Museum “Karvasla,” Joseph Grishashvili Tbilisi History Museum, Zugdidi Dadiani Palace Historical and Architectural Museum, Elene Akhvlediani House Museum, Cornell Georgian National Manuscript Center named after I Kekelidze, Adjara named after Khariton Akhvlediani State Museum, David Kakabadze’s Kutaisi Fine Art Gallery, Niko Firosmanashvili State Museum, Vani Archaeological Museum, Niko Berdzenishvili State Museum of Kutaisi, and Batumi Archaeological Museum. The exhibition will also feature Archil Gelovan’s esteemed collection.

This international collaboration brings together renowned cultural institutions such as the Louvre, the National Museum of Britain, the State Museum of Berlin, the Krakow State Museum, the Jerusalem Museum, the Royal Palace of Wavel, and the National Museum of Warsaw, highlighting the global significance of the exhibition.

A bilingual – English-Polish catalog was prepared for the exhibition.

Preparation of the exhibition in Georgia was led by the First Deputy Director General of the National Museum of Georgia, Director of the State Museum of Art named after Shalva Amiranashvili, and Director of the Museum of the Palace of Culture and Culture Giorgi Kalandia, who is the curator of the exhibition. The exhibition also has a Polish curator – the famous Byzantiologist Professor Miroslav Kruki.

The folklore ensemble Shilda, the folklore-ethnographic group Dziriani, and Nino Nakeuri will participate in the event dedicated to the exhibition’s opening.
