Georgia: Within the framework of the project “Save Nature – Georgia” of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, headed by Otar Shamugia, a working meeting was held in Chiatura Municipality.
At the working meeting, representatives of the Central Implementation Unit of Biodiversity and Forestry Department and Ilia Chavchavadze State University discussed the plans of the Emerald Network Management of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, Central Implementing Unit, the Department of Biodiversity, and Forestry and Ilia Javchavadje State University, Deputy Mayor of Zestafoni, Sachkher and Chiaturi and representatives of self-governing bodies Iles.
During the meeting, various issues related to the emerald network territories within the municipalities of Zestafoni, Chiaturi, Sachkher, Khashuri, and Kharagauli were discussed, and all the necessary information for the work process of developing management plans was learned.
Field trips were carried out in the targeted areas of Zermukhti.
Plans for managing the Emerald Network’s territories are being prepared within the framework of the ongoing program of cooperation between the governments of Georgia and Sweden, “Save Nature—Georgia.”
By the responsibility undertaken by the European Convention on Wildlife and Natural Habitats (Bernie), preparing emerald network management plans is of utmost importance for the conservation of biodiversity in Georgia and the effective management of emerald territories. It is essential to include relevant regional structures in these issues.
It is worth noting that last year, within the framework of the program “Save Nature—Georgia,” four emerald territories management plans were prepared; this year, plans will be prepared for nine territories, which will conclude the work on the first versions of Georgian emerald areas management plans.
