Exhibition dedicated to Children’s Day opens at Sighnaghi Historical-Ethnographic Museum

With the support of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia and the initiative of the International Children's Foundation and organization, a retrospective exhibition - "Children in Georgian Painting," was opened in the exhibition hall of the Sighnaghi Historical-Ethnographic Museum.

Georgia: With the support of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia and the initiative of the International Children’s Foundation and organization, a retrospective exhibition – “Children in Georgian Painting,” was opened in the exhibition hall of the Sighnaghi Historical-Ethnographic Museum.

An exhibition was organized in connection with International Children’s Day, which presents children’s paintings and graphic works protected by the Georgian State Museum of Art funds, named after Shalva Amiranashvili. This means that the public still needs to have the opportunity to see some of the works at exhibitions.

With the foundation’s support, up to 500 children from the Kakheti region will be able to visit the exhibition for free on International Children’s Day.

The opening of the exhibition was attended by Georgian Minister of Culture and Sports Thea Tsulukiani, Mayor of Sighnaghi Municipality Malkhaz Begiashvili, Chairman of the Sighnaghi Municipal Council David Janikashvili,

Representatives of Signaghi Municipality and students of Signaghi Art Studio and Public School.

The project idea was authored by Ana Alaverdashvili, President of the International Children’s Foundation. Irine Abesadze and Mariam Dvali curated the exhibition.

According to the tradition established in the world, artists from Georgia also created a distinctive gallery of children’s faces. The concept and goal of the exhibition are to showcase the unique attitude of society towards children and the unique phenomenon of childhood in fine art – because the child is the symbol of the eternity of the universe, and it is the first duty of the older generation to take care of it and create a safe environment for development.

The following works are presented at the exhibition of new and modern Georgian art paintings and graphics of the State Museum of Art, as well as from the art foundations of Western countries:

It is emphasized that 22 of the works presented in the exhibition were refurbished and restored with the support of the International Children’s Fund for this exhibition, for which the Ministry of Culture and the State Museum of Art are grateful to the organization. Notably, the restorers of the National Museum of Georgia also took part in renovating the exhibits.

Poet and journalist Lina Baratashvili met the pupils of Signaghi Art Studio and Public School at the exhibition opening event. He gave the children his book ” They Were Born in Georgia” as a present.

For information: Within the project, a master class on fine and applied art is planned for public school teachers. The curator of the exhibition, Irina Abesadze, will lead the class. Teachers from Gurjaani, Sagarejo, Dedoplistskaro, and Sighnaghi will participate in the masterclass.

The exhibition will continue until September 23 at the Signaghi Historical-Ethnographic Museum.
