Tbilisi, Georgia: The Mikheil Tumanishvili Theater of Film Actors hosted an evening dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the well-known writer, playwright, and actor Merab Eliozishvili.
The Georgian Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, Thea Tsulukiani, respected writers’ family members, directors, actors, and theater and film industry representatives graced the event.
On the anniversary evening, directed by Giorgi Sikharulidze, they talked about the role of actor and writer in the development of Georgian theater and remembered his work and spiritual achievements.
Patriarch’s godchildren group “Choir,” a teen audience, and literary and Tumanishvili theater actors participated in the event. On the anniversary occasion, a presentation of Merab Eliozishvili’s plays and film script collections was held, funded by the Ministry of Culture.
The great actor, writer, and screenwriter Merab Eliozishvili was born in Tskhinvali on December 18, 1934. He died on January 4, 2012, at the age of 77 years.
He received his education from the Faculty of Oriental Science at Tbilisi State University. In 1958, his first three stories were published in Ciskari, after which he never betrayed the magazine. His first story, “The Old Neighbors,” was given the most significant recognition, which he later transformed into a play. He is the author of two books and two full-length feature film scripts, Esenia, Great Green Valley, and White Caravan.
His works are still famous in the society. Many of them have a movie and a play of emergency importance. The number of his children is also significant: “Expectation” – 1961 year. , “Grandmothers and grandchildren” – 1964, “Sino’s Red Announcements” – 1968. , “Brother Kakhelno” – 1974. , “Rabbit Song” – 1987 year. And others; plays: “Mirror,” “Bears,” “Barecon,” “Nothing”; Movie scripts: “Roads and Crossroads,” “Grandmothers and Grandchildren,” “Cow Thief,” “Big Green Valley,” “Durdo for George” and others.
