Tbilisi, Georgia: For the first time, the Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery will host Temo Machavariani’s large-scale retrospective exhibition. The exhibition will feature up to 60 paintings and graphic works by the artist.
Temo Machavariani was enrolled in the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts in 1970. At that time, the artist Leo Rcheulishvili said that if there is absolute hearing, Temo has absolute vision. One year later, he moved to the faculty of theater painting in the workshop of Farna Lapiashvili. He finished his postgraduate degree in Ucha Japaridze’s class at the academy.
The artist’s creative path starts in the 70s. They said he was a painter, physiologically and biologically. Modest by nature formed into a free artist.
The one who shares the depth of the language of painting or graphics was excluded from the compromise. Temo Machavariani’s graphic or painting heritage is the artist’s native old town landscapes and portraits of his loved ones.
Honesty is the most important thing in creating a good painting, so he believed in it and devoted generations. This is how he created brilliant paintings or graphics imprinted with a special nature.
As both a painter and a teacher, Temo Machavariani’s influence on Georgian painting and society is profound. His legacy will be celebrated at the exhibition, which opens on July 5, 2024, at 18:00 and runs until September 1, 2024.
Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery
Dimitri Shevardnadze National Art Gallery, also known as Tbilisi Art Gallery or Blue Gallery, is located on Rustaveli Avenue, a central street in the capital.
Locals often refer to this building as Blue Gallery, due to its previous exterior design. The building was fully painted blue, and the form here strengthened the name “Blue Gallery.”
Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery is a member of the National Museums and represents one of the most important and main Georgian exhibition spaces.
