Ozurgeti Alexander Tsutsunava Professional State Dramatic Theater expressed its deep sorrow for the death of Honored Artist of Georgia, Omar Urushadze. Notably, he was an honorary Citizen of Ozurgeti, Outstanding Colorite and Honorary Representative of Georgian Theater, Outstanding Performer of Georgian Folk Songs.
Omar Urushadze was an actor of Ozurgeti State Dramatic Theater since 1967, and for many decades, he served the Georgian scene. His many years of work were distinguished by diverse and memorable faces, most noteworthy the faces of Murada and Bejana.
He played many roles, including many of the main ones, during his long career in the theater. He was also filmed in the TV series “Girl from the Suburbs”, where he plays the role of a groomsman in a wedding scene. He has received many awards and prizes.
His professional merit has been recognized several times:
- In 1988, on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the theater, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Georgia.
- In 2018, he was awarded the Order of Honor.
- There was a laureate of Giorgi Shavgulidze and Alexander Zhorzholiani awards.
Omar Urushadze was not only a distinguished actor but also a person valued and loved by the general public, an integral part of Ozurgeti’s cultural life. He was also a member of the ensemble “Nkhioni”, which enriched his creative path even more.
Actor Omar Urushadze died at the age of 82; his death is a big loss for Ozurgeti Theater and for the cultural space of Guria as a whole. Omar Urushadze’s name will remain as a clear example of a worthy artist and a person with high human values.
The rehearsal was held on Saturday, April 11, at 15:00, at Ozurgeti State Dramatic Theater. The Ozurgeti Theater expressed its sincere condolences to the family, relatives, and everyone for whom Omar Urushadze was dear and important.
The Ministry of Sports of Georgia posted information about his passing and a picture of him on its official Facebook site on April 8, 2026, Wednesday. Georgian residents have poured their grief into the comment section.
