Georgia: The Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, within the framework of the World Bank project “Georgia’s Sustainable Agriculture, Irrigation and Land,” signed two international contracts for irrigation systems design with the South Korean company Yoshin Engineering Corporation.
The contract signed with the South Korean company for the design of irrigation systems was worth 12 million US dollars.
The contracts were signed by Tengiz Nasaridze, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, and Kim Chong Huan, Vice President of the company Yoshin Engineering Corporation.
According to Tengiz Nasaridze, this project will improve water supply and regulate drainage infrastructure for about 27 thousand hectares of agricultural land.
Deputy Minister Tengiz Nasaridze emphasized the long-term benefits of the project, stating, “The contract was signed with a reputable South Korean company, which has a proven track record in designing and supervising irrigation construction works. In about 5-6 years, our country’s irrigation system will be significantly upgraded, ensuring sustainable water supply for our agricultural lands.”
“We will get modernized, water-saving and climate-wise systems, which will help our farmers use them; this will be an important impetus for more successful production of agricultural activities,” Tengiz Nasaridze noted.
The contracts encompass a range of projects, including the preparation and technical supervision of detailed engineering project/design of Tashiskari, Tirphoni upper canal, Upper Alazani irrigation systems, Shavghele massif drainage system, and Narekavi reservoir. The total cost of both contracts is $ 11,936,845.
According to Kim Jong Huan, they have extensive experience in irrigation projects and will implement another successful project in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia.
