Tbilisi: In a significant turn of events Gotcha Javakhishvili  Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the French Republic and the Principality of Monaco resigned from his post. He announced his resignation as a gesture of protest against the foreign agent law.

Speaking specifically he said that the protest over the proposed foreign law has sent the relation of Georgia with foreign country on the backstage. He also said that these circumstances have made his job more difficult.

He also took to his Facebook and stated “Although I don’t know anyone personally neither in the government nor among diplomats to be openly pro-Russian. However, I can understand that this may be a kind of tactic to achieve a certain goal. Moreover, I finds this atmosphere difficult to continue with his job.

He further stated “I would like to say that we should express both protest and satisfaction at the elections. This decision of mine should not be treated as a political move or for any vested interest. I want, after a long hesitation, to get rid of the burden that I feel I can’t bear anymore when Tbilisi is witnessing the large-scale protest against foreign law. ”

It is to be specifically mentioned that Ambassador Javakhishvili reaffirmed his commitment to Georgia’s European future, and stated “We have to believe that Georgia has already got strong enough in national values. At the same time, we know the price of freedom and independence.”

Notably large-scale protests are going on against the foreign agent law. This law is being termed as the Russian law. The protesters say that if this law is passed in its present form this will stifle independent voices.

Under the provision of the proposed law if some media house or non-commercial organization is receiving more than 20 percent of their funding from a foreign country they have to register themselves as “institute  under foreign influence.”
