The most of countries celebrates the day on May 9 but large-scale events have been scheduled for May 11 in Georgia. Moreover, the European Union organized the events on May 9, whereas Council of the Europe marked it on May 5 every year as well. The day is celebrated to commemorate the inception of the economic and political integration of the countries on the single platform of the European Union.
The declaration that laid the foundation of this day was given by Robert Schuman. He was the French foreign minister. He is regarded as the father of the European Union. In original the deceleration it was to bring the two enemy nations of Germany and France together for the production of steel and coal jointly.
This was to encourage the rehabilitation of both nation on the economic front. Both countries were hugely damaged by the devastation of World War two. Later on, many other countries joined the forum. Finally, in the year of 1982, the various head of state and government unanimously decided to declare May 9 as Europe day.
Social media users appreciated the decision of the Georgian administration to take such a step to show Georgian solidarity with the European Union. The Republic of Georgia which has been granted the status of the candidate country after a long discussion. Moreover, the country is taking many initiatives to spearhead its journey to get full-fledged membership of the European Union shortly.
The recent protest against the foreign agent law also highlighted the issues. The protestors are calling the proposed law as the Russian law. They also said that future of Georgia is Europe Not Russia.
