Georgian Catholic Patriarch turns 92, PM wishes good health

Georgia: The Catholic Patriarch of All of Georgia received wishes on his 92nd birthday through different Georgian ministers on social media apps like Facebook and Twitter. The Catholic Patriarch of All Georgia was born on January 4, 1933, in Vladikavkaz, Russia.

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze wished Ilia ll, the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia on his 92nd birthday, with great respect and love. PM Kobakhidze congratulated him through his Facebook page.

The Prime Minister of Georgia highlighted his wise leadership through his statement, “Your wise leadership, spiritual strength, and love, has been the light that has gotten our people through difficult, challenging decades.”

In his message, the Georgian PM wished the country’s spiritual leader a long and healthy life. “May your prayers and blessings be with us for long,” he added.

The Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia is Ilia II, who has ruled the Georgian Orthodox Church since 1977. 

He is officially styled as Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, the Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi, and Metropolitan Bishop of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II.

Ilia became the metropolitan in 1969 after being ordained as the bishop of Tskhumi and Abkhazeti in 1967. After the death of the controversial Patriarch David V on November 9, 1977, he was elected the new Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia on 23 December 1977.

He has been crowned as the Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia for more than 45 years, decades spent striving for the revival of the church, serving the people, taking care of them, thinking about the estate, taking actions for its future, fighting for the development of various branches of art.

The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili also congratulated the Catholic Patriarch of All Georgia on his birthday through his Facebook page. “We are happy that in the most difficult era, we have a calm and wise leader of the church, whose prayers and blessings guide us on the way to strengthen and unite our country. I wish our patriarch a long life for the benefit of our people,” the Speaker wrote on Facebook.
