Georgian celebrates 90th anniversary of Gizo Jordania

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia honors the memory of the country's Renowned director Gaiox (Gizo) Jordania. The Ministry also recalled his great contribution for promotion of Georgian culture.

Georgia: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia honors the memory of the country’s Renowned director Gaiox (Gizo) Jordania. The Ministry also recalled his great contribution for promotion of Georgian culture.

An event dedicated to Gizo Jordania’s 90th death anniversary will be held on September 25 at the Shota Rustaveli Theater and Film State University, with the support of the Ministry of Cultre of Georgia.

If alive, the prominent director and teacher Gaiox (Gizo) Jordania would have turned 90 on September 25, 2024.

His directorial handwriting is characterized by a kaleidoscopic perception of events. It is here that his sharp thinking, active civic position and humor are best revealed.

Gizo Jordania is a distinguished master of sensible genre coloring and typography. His works, which include fiery satirical subtexts and musical parodies, are exciting and attractive. He has also directed several concerts or public celebrations.

Gizo Jordania had an unmistakable goal of identifying an active nature. This is proved by a long and fruitful pedagogical activity at the Shota Rustaveli Theater and Film State University.

Jordania has participated in several movies, including Besame (Duke) and Crime Has Been Committed (painter). The director was awarded the Albert Schweitzer Peace Medal and the State Prize of Georgia.

In the last years of his life, the famous artist’s directorial and pedagogical talent appeared in Batumi, too, parallel with his work in Tbilisi. His work as a rector is noteworthy in Batumi, at the Abashidze Institute of Art, which was led by the director from 1999 to 2004.

In 2003, he was awarded the State Prize named after Tbel Abuseridze for his performances. In 1965, he was awarded the Honorable Achiever of Art of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara; in 1972, the Honorable Achievers of Art of Georgia and in 1983, the Honorable Title of People’s Artist of Georgia.
