Georgian Culture Ministry honours Rezo Mirtschulava’s memory

Georgia: The Georgian Ministry of Culture and Sports pays tribute to Rezo Mirtschulava, the illustrious director, theater teacher, Georgian People’s Artist, and Honored Artist of the Arts. His memory and unwavering dedication to Georgian culture are deeply honoured. 

90 years have passed since the birth of the Georgian artist Levan (Rezo) Mirshulava.

After graduating from the Theater Institute, Levan (Rezo) Mirchulava worked at different times as a director, chief director and artistic director in the theatres of Sokhumi, Marjanishvili, Rustaveli, Russian Young audience, Griboedov, Poti, Batumi. He was the principal director of the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Georgia; for ten years, he was leading the public celebration “Tbilisoba”.

Rezo Mirtskulava’s directorial prowess spanned a wide range of styles and genres, from modern to classic, national to foreign, leaving an indelible mark on the theatrical landscape. 

It is noteworthy from dozens of plays he has staged in different theatres: K. Golden’s “Maids of two masters” a. Jerry’s “sixth-floor” a. Kazbegi’s “Priest”, u. Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” (Sokhumi Theater), J. Anui’s “Motorola”, k. Gamsakhurdia’s “Moon Abduction” (Marjanishvili Theater), m. Bulgakov’s “The Conspiracy of the Pharisees”, a. Tolstoy’s “The Death of Ivan the Fury”, a. Getsadze’s “Date in the Sky” (Rustaveli Theater), v. Mayakovsky’s “Bath”, g. Khutsrishvili’s “Blanket”, a. Chekhov’s “Bear” and “Asking for a Hand” (Russian Youth Theater), Euripides’ “Medea” (Poti Theater) a. Griboedov’s “Wai from the mind” (Griboedov Theater), G. Robakidze’s “Lamara” J. Anui’s “Torola” (Batumi Theater) and others.

Rezo Mirtschulava’s pedagogical legacy is unparalleled. As the director and teacher of the Department of Acting at the Shota Rustaveli State University of Theater and Cinema, he nurtured and guided countless actors, leaving a lasting imprint on the industry. 

According to his municipality, a ballet studio was established, and pantomime and puppet groups were created. Rezo Mirshulava has prepared a group of professional actors and directors for the opening of the Khulo State. 

Rezo Mirtskulava opened the Theater with his performances. He has up to 20 scientific papers on the issues of acting skills and direction methodology.
