The head of the Georgian Defense Forces, who is visiting the Kingdom of Belgium, held a bilateral meeting with the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee. Major General Giorgi Matiashvili and Admiral Rob Bauer reviewed the issues of NATO-Georgia military cooperation and discussed priorities and future prospects.
Major General Giorgi Matiashvili thanked the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee for his support and stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation and increasing compatibility with the Alliance in light of existing threats and challenges.
The main topic of conversation at the meeting in Brussels was the security environment in the region and the large-scale aggression launched by Russia against Ukraine in the Black Sea region. The sides expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and condemned Russia’s actions.
Major General Giorgi Matiashvili briefed Admiral Rob Bauer on the ongoing transformation process in the Georgian Defense Forces, as well as important initiatives under the NATO-Georgia Essential Package (SNGP).
He also briefed the Chairman of the Military Committee on the long-term development plan for strengthening Georgia’s defence capabilities, which envisages the use of all practical mechanisms of cooperation with NATO and aims to increase the capabilities of the Georgian Defense Forces.
Georgia’s great contribution to NATO-led international peacekeeping operations was noted at the meeting, and the Georgian side expressed readiness to continue participating in NATO missions and operations in the future.
