Georgian Environment Department fines 351 vehicles for pollution

Employees of the Environmental Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture identified 351 violations of non-compliance with the established norms of the emission of motor vehicles from November 01 to November 30, 2024.

Employees of the Environmental Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture identified 351 violations of non-compliance with the established norms of the emission of motor vehicles from November 01 to November 30, 2024.

All this was done in the framework of the fight against atmospheric air pollution. The most – 183 violations were recorded in Tbilisi, 57 in Rustavi, 56 in Batumi and 55 in Kutaisi.

Out of 351 offenders fined by the employees of the Environmental Supervision Department, 310 are natural persons and 41 are legal persons.

216 penalty bills for drivers of light vehicles have been made, in the name of 121 minibuses and 14 truck drivers.

Employees of the Environmental Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, have been implementing emissions control of vehicles in 4 major cities of GeorgiaTbilisi, Rustavi, Kutaisi and Batumi since September 4, 2023.

Since the law was enacted until November 2024 a total of 8216 individuals and legal persons have been fined by the department’s moving crews for non-compliance with the norm for emission of vehicles.

For non-compliance with the norm established by the law of exhaustion of motor vehicles, in the case of a natural person, the amount of fine is 100 GEL on the first time, 300 GEL on the second time, 600 GEL on the third time. In the case of a legal person, the fine is 500, 1500 and 3000 GEL. In case of paying the fine within 10 days, the amount of the fine will be reduced by 20% for violators.

Citizens can check the fines on the website of the Department of Environmental Oversight: www.des.gov.ge. The fines can be paid through the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs www.videos.police.ge.

The direction of improving atmospheric air quality is a priority for the department. In order to prevent pollution from enterprises, a continuous self-monitoring system for the release of harmful substances into the air has been installed in enterprises.

At the same time, the Department of Environmental Supervision regularly checks the fuel quality at motorbike stations to minimize the consumption of non-conditional fuel, which in turn significantly reduces the release of harmful substances into the atmospheric air. At the same time, in 4 major cities, the control of visible emissions of cars on the roads is also underway. Complexly, all of these areas contribute to minimizing air quality pollution.
