Georgia: The National Food Agency checks the quality of fat/oil used for frying in public food facilities. There were no violations in the inspected objects.
The National Food Agency of Georgia shared the glimpses of their inspection works on its official Facebook Page on December 3, 2025, Wednesday. The Agency also shared a small note about the works along with its glimpses.
It is worth noting that frying grease/oil is often used in public catering establishments to fry potatoes (so-called fries), bird meat, dough, and other products.
The National Food Agency regularly monitors the temperature, safety, and quality of fried fat/oil in public food facilities with a special device (VITO oil tester). Large and small objects will be cleaned throughout the country. So far, no violations have been found in the objects inspected.
The National Food Agency recommends that business operators constantly carry out internal controls. In case the indicator exceeds the norm, the facility is obliged to change the oil immediately.
As a result of high temperatures, over time, such compounds that are dangerous to health accumulate in the oil.
At the same time, it is important to manage used oil waste properly, which is regulated by relevant laws (Regulation N 605). It is prohibited to dump used grease/oil into the sink or the environment, as it causes environmental pollution while damaging pipes. By law, it is mandatory to collect used grease/oil and transfer it to specialized companies that provide the recycling of said waste.
The Georgian Food Agency urges customers to leave information on the hotline – 15-01, in case of a violation.
Additionally, it should be noted that joint monitoring of the consumer market and active population engagement will enable the National Food Agency to identify and eliminate discrepancies promptly.
