Georgia: After a successful competition at the World Championship in Tirana, the Georgian freestyle wrestling team returned to the homeland on November 2, 2024.
Albania’s capital, Tirana, hosted the World Championship in non-Olympic weight categories. The Georgian freestyle wrestling team finished the World Championship with two medals and first place in the team ranking.
Avtandil Kenchadze (79 kg) celebrated the World Championship. Georgian freestyle wrestler defeated Magomed Magomaev with a score of 13:4. It is noteworthy that, after a 5-year pause, Avtandil Kenchadze is the first Georgian freestyle wrestler to win a gold medal at the World Championship.
Mirian Maisuradze (92 kg) won the silver medal. He conceded the final match with two-time Olympic and five-time world champion Abdulrashid Sadulaev on the neutral flag. It is important that after a 21-year pause, the Georgian freestyle wrestling team took first place in the World Championship team ranking.
First Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports of Georgia Shalva Gogoladze and President of National Wrestling Federation of Georgia Tamaz Gegeshidze met Georgian wrestlers at Tbilisi International Airport to congratulate the success of Georgian wrestlers. Fans and family members were waiting for the athletes.
They remind the public that Georgian wrestlers participated in the World Championship, which was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia.
Avtandil Kentchadze
Avtandil Kentchadze is a Georgian wrestler who won a silver medal at the 2018 World Wrestling Championships. Kentchadze also captured a bronze medal at both the U23 Senior European Championships in 2018 and U23 Senior World Champions held in 2017.
Magomed Magomedovich Magomaev
Magomed Magomedovich Magomaev is a Russian freestyle wrestler who competes in the 79-kilogram class. He is the 2024 world finalist and the 2024 Russian national champion. He has been twice U23 world champion.
