Tbilisi, Georgia: The Georgian handball national team played the first home match of the 2026 European Championship qualifying stage at Tbilisi Arena. Georgian handball players faced Icelanders and lost the match by 25:30.
The first half of the match ended with the guests’ minimum advantage of 14:13, and the Icelanders had the advantage in the second half.
First Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports Shalva Gogoladze and President of the National Handball Federation Vakhtang Meifariani attended the match between Georgia and Iceland. Giorgi Dikhaminjia, from the Georgian national team, was named the best player of the match, and Shalva Gogoladze gave him a special award.
After the meeting, Shalva Gogoladze met with the national team members and wished them success in their future matches.
The national team played Greece in the first match of the qualifying stage and conceded the match with a one-point difference, 26:27. In the next match, Georgian handball players will face Bosnia-Herzegovina.
It is worth remembering that in 2024, the national handball team of Georgia competed for the first time in history at the European Championship held in Germany. The team trained by Tite Kalandadze took third place in Group E. Georgian athletes held the last-round match with Bosnia-Herzegovina and defeated the opponent with a score of 22:19.
