A Georgian delegation recently visited Canada to attend the Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly. The delegation is being led by David Songulashvili the Chair of the Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy Committee of the Georgian Parliament.
Anton Obolashvili a member of the Parliament also accompanies him. This is the 49th session of the Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly and the Georgian delegation will also share its ideas with the other event participants. French Senator Christophe-André Frassa is currently chairing the Political Affairs Committee of the session. The session with the involvement of Georgian Parliament members reviewed the Russian occupation of the country. It will further discuss Georgia’s European integration and the role of an international partner in this direction as well.
Songulashvili while addressing the meeting added that the “major challenge” is the occupation right now. He also underlined that the country had responded to it “for many years” while respecting the international laws, rules, and regulations. They also said that the entire region has become turbulent due to the occupation of these territories.
The chair further said that the importance of the support of international partners is very significant. He also added that the policy of non-recognition of the Russian-occupied territories, a rule for visa liberalization between Georgia and European Union states, and free trade agreements are examples of the support the country receives from international partners. Songulashvili further underlined that all agencies of the Republic of Georgia are working round the clock to ensure the successful entry of the Georgian into the European Union.”
He said the European Union is the natural choice and this choice is being reinforced by the aspirations of our people and the support of world leaders. According to him by working together, we will accomplish our objective and Georgia will become a member of the European Union in the near future with all grace. He also said that Georgia has all rights to be a member of the European Union and added that with the support of our international partners this will be completed very soon.
