The Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili left for France on a working visit at the invitation of the French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The President of France hosted the Head of the Government in the Elysee Palace.
The meeting focused on the decision made by the European Commission – a favourable recommendation was given to the European Council on granting Georgia a candidate status of EU membership.
The head of government participated in the Paris Peace Forum with world leaders. The Prime Minister held high-level meetings within the framework of the working visit.
The head of government noted that this decision of the European Commission is historical. Georgia is waiting for candidate status in December, which will determine the European future of our country.
Irakli Gharibashvili thanked Emmanuel Macron for his support on this journey, emphasized the importance of political and practical support for France as a leading EU country, and expressed hope that it will be strengthened further, which will help Georgia successfully proceed to the post-union stages.
At the meeting, Irakli Garibashvili and Emmanuel Macron discussed the cooperation issues between the two countries and prospects for deepening cooperation in different spheres.
The conversation also touched upon the region’s security environment and worldwide.
The sides discussed ways to solve the current challenges and talked about Georgia’s positive role in achieving security and stability in the South Caucasus.
Irakli Garibashvili thanked Emmanuel Macron for his firm support of our country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and Georgia’s European future and invited him to Georgia.
