Tbilisi: Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze congratulated the national football team on Friday’s historic victory, which he also termed a “truly historic” victory.
The prime minister’s comment came after the national football team secured a spot in the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament on Tuesday. The match was held in Tbilisi and the national football team defeated Greece.
During his interaction with students in the western Georgian city of Kutaisi Kobakhidze said “This historic victory of the team showed “that where there is love for the country, fighting spirit and faith in victory everything is possible, No matter which is the opposition team”, in comments on the result that saw the Georgian team qualify for its first major football competition.
He also said, “Our guys won a historic victory during the tense fight. Emotions have not slowed down yet and will not slow down for a long time. I wish all the team members the great success and victories in their professional life in the future.”
The government had also highlighted the role of the Georgian Football Federation in this significant victory. On Thursday the European governing body UEFA said Georgia’s Euro 2024 qualification was a “culmination” of years of football development, planning, and innovation by the National Federation.
On the other hand the government said the Federation and its President, Levan Kobiashvili, had “done their best over the years to create the special, historic victory”.
Meanwhile celebrations were being organised on many place across many parts of the country. People were celebrating in groups at clubs, streets, and other public places. On this occasion, the Georgian PM made it clear that the Georgian government is very concerned about promoting the country’s sports culture. He also assured the allocation of more funds in this direction. The social media user also lauds the victory on different social media platforms.
