Georgia: The multi-volume presentation of the Georgian choral anthology was held in the concert hall of the State Folklore Center. The presentation was opened by the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze.
The Georgian Minister of Education, Science, and Youth Giorgi Amilakhvar participated in the event. Anzor Erkomaishvili State Folklore Center released 29 volumes of the choir anthology with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
Gamocema is bilingual and includes more than 6,000 hymns, most of which were first printed and widely available.
In the implementation of the anthology project the foundation “Georgian Chant” is involved. In addition, in cooperation with the State Archives and the National Center of Manuscripts, it has been digitized and on the electronic platform – folk. gov. ge posted up to ten thousand Sanoto manuscripts.
Georgian chanting – singing preservation – development is especially important. This project also serves exactly this purpose – by implementing the project Georgian hymns, using modern technologies, will be protected forever.
It is noteworthy that Giorgi Mtatsmindeli University makes a special contribution to the revival of the Georgian choir and the development of this field. The educational institution, supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, is implementing several scientific research projects, which in turn promote the fundamental study of the Georgian church choir and traditional music.
In addition, Giorgi Mtatsmindeli University and distinguished musical groups – the Patriarchal Choir of the Holy Trinity Cathedral and Ensemble “Basiani” were given a unique building, the restoration of which is underway with the financial support of the Georgian Ministry of Education, Science and Youth and the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
The PM said, “Presently, the Folklore Center plays a key role in the development of this tradition. The center has established choral conducting schools throughout Georgia. It supports scientific studies into sacred chant, also promoting young people’s greater engagement in this crucially important cause.”
He also thanked Bidzina Ivanishvili, whose charity made this cause a reality, and who supported Minister Anzor Erkomaishvili and his center for many years.
At last, he thanked everyone. “On behalf of the Georgian Government and myself, I reiterate solidarity and pledge support to you. I wish you success in your future work toward this formidable patriotic cause,” the Prime Minister said.
