Georgian Prosecutor-General Meets Deputy Director of FBI

Irakli Shotadze the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Georgia who is in the United States of America met with the Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Prosecutor General of Georgia Irakli Shotadze was accompanied by Minister of Justice Rati Bregadze; both visited the United States of America and held a meeting with the Deputy Director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, Paul Abat.

Notably this significant meeting between representatives of both countries was also attended by Georgian Ambassador to the United States of America Davit Zalkaliani, as welll as Deputy Prosecutor General of Georgia Natia Merebashvili, Deputy Minister of Justice Beka Dzamashvili, Legal Advisor of the US State Department of Justice Lena Owens and representatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

According to the Prosecutor General of Georgia, the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia is cooperating and coordinating very closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in all aspects of law enforcement in republic of gerogia. Irakli Shotadze speaking on the occasion thanked Paul Abat for the support that the Federal Bureau of Investigation provides to the investigators and prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia both in terms of finding help in specific criminal cases and sharing experience and best practices.

On the other hand on this occassion Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation also thanked the Georgian side for the fruitful partnership in the fight against transnational crime and expressed his willingness to further deepen cooperation in the future.

After the conclusion of meeting, the members of the visiting Georgian delegation visited the headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. They got to know in depth the specifics of the Bureau’s work, both procedurally and technologically, that have the potential for practical implementation in Georgia.

It is worth mentioning that as a part of the official visit to the United States of America, specific agreements between Georgia and the USA on mutual legal assistance and extradition in criminal cases were initiated, which will be subject to further signing and ratification.

Both sides express their willingness for coordination and cooperation in the field of law enforcement. They also discuss in detail the measures for coordination and cooperation in case of trans-country crimes.

Georgian sides also said that in the wake of the candidate status of Georgia granted by the European Council the cooepraion between both the countries is very important.
