Georgia: The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged two citizens of the Republic of Turkey with the illegal purchase, storage, and transportation of firearms and ammunition in the vicinity of the Billionaire Hotel in Batumi, and the illegal purchase and storage of narcotics in a huge amount.

The Georgian Prosecution Service shared the details of this crime through its official Facebook Page on Thursday. It is worth noting that the police department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia conducted an in-depth investigation into this case.

The investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that the defendants illegally purchased and stored firearms, with which one of the defendants fired several shots in the direction of the Billionaire Hotel located on Zhiuli Shartava Street in Batumi. As a result of the shooting, the glass of the hotel’s entrance door and the external facade were damaged, and public order was grossly violated.

The investigation also established that the defendants illegally purchased and stored a particularly large amount of 7.974 grams of the drug cocaine (base), which was seized by law enforcement officers during a search of the defendants’ personal and residential premises.

The Georgian Prosecutors arrested the defendants on July 22. They were charged under Article 236, Part 6, Subparagraphaof the Criminal Code of Georgia (illegal acquisition, storage, carrying of firearms and ammunition, committed by a group), Article 239, Part 3 (hooliganism, that is, an act that grossly violates public order and expresses obvious disrespect for society, committed with the threat of violence, by a group with prior agreement, using a firearm), and Article 260, Part 3, Subparagraphaof the Criminal Code of Georgia (illegal acquisition, storage of narcotic drugs in an especially large amount), which provides for a sentence of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

The Prosecutor’s Office has already petitioned the court to impose imprisonment as a preventive measure on the defendants.
