Khelvachauri municipality, Georgia: The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has indicted one person with the facts of illegal purchase, storage, and attempted sale of huge amounts of narcotic drugs. The person was arrested on May 14, 2025, on Wednesday.
The Georgian Prosecution Service shared the details of this crime through its official Facebook Page on Wednesday. The Service also shared the glimpspes of the arrest made by them.
The police department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia conducted an in-depth investigation into this case. The investigation revealed that the person who was found with a large amount of drugs is a citizen of a foreign country.
Cause of charges
According to the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was revealed that a foreign citizen illegally acquired and stored a particularly large amount of narcotic drugs, part of which he placed in the territory of the Khelvachauri municipality for sale.
The law enforcers seized a large amount of drug “methadone“ valued in candy papers, while raiding the personal and temporary residence of the accused, from the locations he specified for realization.
Criminal charges laid on the suspect
Notably, the detainee was charged under Article 260, Part 3, Subparagraph “a” of the Criminal Code of Georgia (illegal purchase and storage of narcotic drugs in an especially large amount) and Article 19-2603, Part 6, Subparagraph “a” (attempt to illegally sell narcotic drugs in an especially large amount) of the Criminal Code of Georgia. It provides for a sentence of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
Action taken by the Georgian Prosecutor’s office
Notably, there is huge public support for the law enforcement agency for these drives to make the country drug-free. It should also be noted that the Prosecutor’s Office will also apply to the Khelvachauri District Court within the time limit established by law with a motion. It will be done impose imprisonment on the defendant as a preventive measure.
