Sagarejo Municipality, Georgia: The Prosecution Office of Georgia on Sunday said that law enforcement officers have charged and arrested one person from Sagarejo Municipality for the intentional murder and illegal acquisition, storage, and carrying of firearms.
The Prosecution Service of Georgia shared these details with the public through its social media handles on February 9, 2025. It should be noted that the employees of the Kakheti Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia conducted an in-depth investigation into this crime.
The body noted that, as a result of conducted operational-search measures and investigative actions, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was established that in one of the villages of Sagarejo municipality, on the ground of conflicts, the accused killed one person with a firearm shot that inflicted a fatal wound to the chest of the victim.
The investigations also revealed that the victim was born in 1987 and was 38 years old, and the accused who killed the victim was born in 1984.
Law enforcement officers arrested the accused on February 8. The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia said that the arrest had been made on the specific charge of “murder under aggravating circumstances,” adding the arrested person also had a criminal history.
The person was charged under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Georgia:
- Article 108- Intentional murder under aggravating circumstances
- Article 143- Illegal purchase of firearms,
- Article 236 (Part 3)- Illegal storage and carrying of firearms.
It should also be noted that these articles provide for a sentence of ten to fifteen years or life imprisonment.
On the other hand, the Georgian Prosecutor’s office applies to the court within the time limit established by the law with a motion to use imprisonment as a preventive measure. The preventative custody of the accused is necessary to stop him from tampering with the evidence or threatening the prime witnesses of the crime.
It is to be specifically mentioned that law enforcement agencies are working in collaboration to tackle the country’s increasing crime rate. The law enforcers are also organizing seminars and workshops to inform people about the strict legal provisions. At the same time, legal provisions are being made more strict so that accused persons can be prevented from committing offenses due to fear of the law.
