Georgia: The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged two individuals with domestic violence and coercion against a minor. They both were arrested on April 25, 2025, Friday.

The Prosecution Service of Georgia shared these details with the public through its social media handles on April 28, 2025 Monday. It should be noted that the employees of the Tbilisi Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia conducted an in-depth investigation into this henious crime.

According to the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was revealed that the defendant, a mother and grandmother, physically abused a minor family member, inflicting multiple injuries on various parts of the body and forcing him not to leave his home as punishment.

As per the information shared by the Prosecution Service of Georgia, it should be noted that the law enforcement officers arrested the defendants on April 25.

Notably, both defendants were charged under Subparagraphs “a” and “d” of Part 2 of Article 126 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (domestic violence committed in a group against a minor) and Subparagraphs “a” and “b” of Part 2 of Article 11 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (coercion committed against a family member committed in a group against a minor), which carry sentences ranging from one to three years in prison.

Meanwhile, the Prosecutor’s Office has appealed to the court of law to use imprisonment as a measure of restraint within the time limit set by law. It is worth mentioning that gender-based violence is still the biggest problem in the country. Despite the awareness drive and large-scale initiative every year a large number of such cases are reported throughout the country.

Family Violence Act (FVA)

The Georgia Family Violence Act protects victims and punishment for abusers, and the Special Investigation Service is the agency responsible for investigating crimes committed by law enforcement officers.

The Georgia Family Violence Act is an additional consideration for a specific category of criminal acts that take place between certain family members and relationships.
