Georgia: The representatives of the public defender, including a doctor employed by the Public Defender’s Office, revisited the starving journalist Mzia Amaglobeli on January 31, at N5 Penitentiary.
The Public Defender of Georgia shared the details of the journalist’s health, with the public, through its official Facebook page.
According to the details shared by the Georgian Public Defender, it should be noted that, since the day of her arrest, the public defender and his representatives, including a doctor employed by the Public Defender’s Office, have already visited the journalist seven times. This was the eighth time they visited her.
The doctor talked to Mzia Amaglobeli, got to know his medical documentation, and talked to the medical staff of the penitentiary institution.
According to the Public Defender of Georgia, it is noteworthy that the health condition of Mzia Amaglobeli is satisfactory at this stage. At the same time, it should be noted that he had specific health problems before his arrest and there is a risk of complications due to hunger. The Journalist, Mzia Amaglobeli is undergoing medical research and is under intensive medical supervision.
It should be noted that the Public Defender’s Office has received the results of the latest investigations conducted in the current week, which have already been handed to the lawyer today (after the materials provided yesterday, additionally).
In addition, the Public Defender of Georgia wanted to respond to the questions related to the creation of a consilium and clarify that neither Mzia Amhlobeli, his family, nor his legal representatives have made such a request.
The Public Ombudsman will discuss, within the framework of the mandate granted to him by law, the issue of inviting additional specialists, if such a necessity arises.
At this stage, the public defender is actively monitoring the provision of medical services for Mzia Amaglobeli with the help of a doctor employed in the facility, as well as at different times in the process of monitoring hunger or other health problems of a number of other starving prisoners.
According to the information shared by the Public Defender, it should also be noted that her medical record will be reviewed and evaluated again by a doctor employed by the Office, and will also make another visit shortly if the need arises.
