Georgia: The Georgian Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth donated five new Olympic class boats to the Georgian Sailing Federation (ILCA) in a Friday, December 22, 2023 ceremony.
The minister of sport, Thea Tsulukiani, the president of the Georgian Sailing Federation, Devi Kituashvili, the veteran sailor, Guram Biganishvili, and the coach, Jumper Tsomaia, as well as several athletes, attended the event.
The new boats, which are of the ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 types, are designed for single-handed sailing and are used in the Olympic Games. They were purchased from the British company Ovington for 93234,42 GEL and customized for Georgian sailors in 2023.
The Georgian Sailing Federation expressed its gratitude to the ministry for its support. It said that the new boats will boost the performance and motivation of the Georgian sailors, who will compete in international tournaments, including the preparation for the 2028 Olympic year.
The federation also noted that this is the first time that it has received such Olympic class boats, which will help it develop the sport of sailing in Georgia.
The minister of sport, Thea Tsulukiani, congratulated the Georgian Sailing Federation and the athletes on acquiring the new boats and wished them success in their future endeavours.
She also praised the federation for its achievements and contribution to the promotion of Georgian culture, sports and youth.
The Georgian Sailing Federation is the national governing body for the sport of sailing in Georgia. It is affiliated with the World Sailing, the international federation for the sport.
It organizes and participates in various sailing events, such as the European Sailing Championship, the World Sailing Championship, and the Olympic Games. It also supports and trains young and talented sailors who represent Georgia internationally.
