Tbilisi: The Georgian students working with Evolution Georgia company went on strike. They are demanding a pay raise and improvement of working conditions.
Evolution Georgia is known as the best and largest job provider for students. The first job profile offered to students is the game presenter. The students can easily earn GEL 900 (USD 329) net per month for day and GEL 1225 (USD 450) for night shifts. The company also promised to offer many other benefits.
But on the other hand the students said that the reality is totally different and they are not being offered the facilities as promised. The workers reported that the poor-air ventilation, random shifts of timing increase , and CCTV pointed directly at them are some other problems they are facing.
However, Evolution Georgia denies any claims of poor working conditions. It says everything is going as usualas the maximum number of employees are still returning to regular jobs. The tough life of the students has been made more miserable by recent working rules and regulations. At the same time soaring inflation and drastic rent increases made life difficult for those who came to Tbilisi from other areas.
Although some controversy erupted over the employment of students in gambling companies, students consider it an easy method of earning money to support their expenses and studies. Guro Imnadze of the Social Justice Center a Georgian progressive NGO took to his social media handles to express concern over the students’ employment in gambling companies. He said that the students are working in online casinos, call centers, and similar places due to the rising unemployment rate across the country.
Imnadze, while speaking further on the issue said that the labor law of the country needs to be reintroduced so that the unemployment rate can be reduced. He also added that it is the responsibility of the Government to ensure that the working conditions at the workplace are fulfilled as per the labor laws of the country.
It is worth mentioning that the laws of the country must be directed to mitigate the exploitation of the youth. Moreover government also needs to take steps to increase employment in every sector.
