Georgia: Employees of the Department of Environmental Supervision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture conducted preventive measures within the framework of the fight against poaching.
The Environmental Supervision Department shared the details on its official Facebook page on February 25, 2025, Tuesday. According to the details provided by the Ministry’s environment department, it should be noted that as a result of the actions held by the employees of the Regional Authority of Shida Kartli, near the village Sammemvrisi, in Kareli, a 70-meter-long expansion-type net was removed from the river Mtkvari.
It should also be noted that the employees of Mtskheta-Mtianeti Regional Authority held preventive measures in Dusheti and Mtskheti municipalities. A 100-meter-long mesh net has been removed from the Jhinvali reservoir, a 50-meter-length mesh has been extracted from the river Mtkvari, near Daba Zahesi. Near the village Nichbisi, 6 units of fishing traps made of tires were removed from the river Mtkvari river bank.
In the capital, members of the Rapid Response Service and Environmental Patrol conducted preventive measures against illicit fishing. The Tbilisi Sea has yielded a net that is 100 meters long and shells that are 50 meters long and attached to a hook. It is also worth noting that the employees of the department seized illegal fishing means and compiled appropriate documentation.
Notably, the Department of Environmental Supervision prioritizes the identification, detection, and prevention of illicit fishing. In this regard, preventive measures are being carefully planned, particularly in areas where poaching has been more prevalent in recent years.
It is to be added that the Georgia’s Department of Environmental Supervision crews carry out continuous 24-hour patrolling throughout the country to prevent and detect illegal forestry, poaching, fishing, and other environmental violations promptly. In addition, immediate response is given to each message received on the hotline (153) of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.
