Tbilisi: The Parliament of the Republic of Georgia has denied the reports of a TV channel on spending on food services. According to the Georgian Parliament this is a lie being spread to degrade the credibility of the Government.
It is specifically to mention that as per the report of “TV First” the Parliament of Georgia had spent an amount of 2.8 million GEL on food services and was declared the most spending agency in this regard.
The parliament representative stated that “We would like to inform the public that the mentioned information is complete misinformation and manipulation of facts”.
Moreover the data given in the story is taken from the parliamentary budget line “Representational expenses” and is interpreted as if this budget line only applies to food services which is not true and goes against government policies.
They also added that the alleged story does not provide detailed information regarding the purpose of the expenditure incurred from this article of the budget (representative expenses) which is why there is an attempt to mislead the public by publishing the wrong factual information as well.
The official said that as per the facts of a published article Parliament’s “Representational expenses” in the period given in the story the expenses amounted to 2,814,570 GEL in total and out of it the expenses of the majority bureaus amounted to 2,495,100 GEL (87% of the total expenses) other representative expenses which also included (events held in the Parliament Palace and protocol meetings with delegations of foreign countries ), the number of which was 154 in the mentioned period, amounted to 319,470 GEL (13% of the total cost).
The official also said that The Parliament most transparent institution. it is unfortunate that instead of properly researching the data and informing the viewers correctly story misinformed the viewers.
They advised the media house to cross-check the facts before publishing any report in the future otherwise legal action will be taken.
