Georgia’s National Defense Academy hosts joint exit session

A joint exit session of the committees of Defense and Security, Education, Science, and Youth Affairs was held at the Georgian National Defense Academy named after David Aghmashenebeli.

Members of Parliament were hosted by Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Chikovani and Commander of Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Giorgi Matiashvili. The deputies were addressed by the heads of the Ministry of Defense. The Minister of Defense emphasized the fruitful cooperation between the Defense Agency and the legislature and thanked the deputies.

Deputy Minister of Defense Grigol Giorgadze presented information about the defense military education system at the meeting. He spoke about the steps of military education and educational programs.

“After completing four years of training, the Junks are getting the title of officer. They undertake proper specialization after which they are appointed as officers in different subdivisions of the Defense Forces. In the National Defense Academy, all necessary conditions are provided for Junks to receive a high-quality education, to promote a healthy lifestyle, and to build a successful military career,” said Grigol Giorgadze.

Members of the Committee on Education, Science, and Youth Affairs discussed key aspects of education reform that relate to the National Military Academy at the joint session. The attention was focused on deepening international cooperation and future opportunities for R&D.

“The military and defense spheres are often an important platform for innovation, where many technological news and inventions take the forefront.” It is important that research activities in the National Academy are organized properly and that the intellectual resources there are used as effectively as possible,” said Mariam Lashkh, the chairman of the Committee for Education, Science and Youth Affairs.

Members of Parliament visited the National Defense Academy before starting the joint session of committees. The deputies had the opportunity to get to know the housing and education conditions of Junkers.

“We talked about the planned changes within the framework of education reform and discussed how the National Defense Academy’s educational process can continue to be developed and systematized.” We also visited the infrastructure and training laboratories of the academy, where the junks are familiar with the news and new technologies in accordance with modern standards,” said Alexander Tabatadze, Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee.
