Georgia: Giorgi Amilakhvari, the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, congratulated education representatives and society on the New Year 2024 in a video on his official Facebook page.
Giorgi Amilakhvari: “Happy New Year 2024!” I congratulate education representatives, pupils, parents, teachers, school heads, students, professors, and scientists.
2023 was indeed a remarkable year for our country. We had a lot of success, and, most importantly, we became a witness to a historic event – Georgia got EU candidate status.
We actively continue to care for a better future for Georgia and take essential steps for the country’s benefit. Please note that one of the top priorities of the Georgian government is education because we believe that the educated generation creates the solid foundation for building a strong European country.”
Amilakhvari praised Georgia’s achievements in 2023, especially the historic event of obtaining the EU candidate status. He said that this resulted from the unshaken commitment of the Georgian people to European values and the government’s action to accelerate the reform process and strengthen good governance.
He also emphasized that education is one of the top priorities of the Georgian government, as it believes that the educated generation creates a solid foundation for building a strong European country. He said that Georgia needs new visions and innovative ideas, and the necessary energy and passion for this is in the youth.
He expressed his confidence that in 2024, Georgia will implement several important initiatives and create an even better environment for the children to achieve their full potential. He wished peace, health, and prosperity to all and said that 2024 would be the year of development, success, and victory for each individual and the whole of Georgia.
The European Commission recommended granting candidate status to Georgia on November 8, 2023, and the European Council approved it on December 14, 2023. This significant step brings Georgia closer to realizing its mission of reuniting with Europe and becoming a full-fledged member of the EU.
However, Georgia still faces challenges and expectations from the EU, such as strengthening the rule of law, ensuring media freedom, and resolving the political crisis.
Georgian Minister of Education and Science Giorgi Amilakhvari congratulates the representatives of the field of education and the whole society on the New Year.
