The Holder of the Dimitri Gulia State Scholarship, a student from occupied Abkhazia, became Giorgi Gamisonia, whose awarding ceremony was held on December 16, 2025, Tuesday.
The Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia shared the glimpses of the event on its official Facebook Page on December 16, 2025, Tuesday. The Ministry also shared a small note about the meeting along with its glimpses.
Notably, the ceremony was attended by Baia Kvitsiani, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Youth. The winner was awarded a relevant certificate along with souvenir gifts by the Minister of State for Reconciliation and Civil Equality.
Baia Kvitsiani addressed the community attending the event, who focused attention on initiatives aimed at ensuring access to quality education for people living in the occupied territories. According to him, such measures are the best motivation for students residing in occupied territories to study and another step towards restoring the country’s territorial integrity.
The event was opened by the Minister of State Tea Akhvlediani for reconciliation and civil equality. Among the speakers were Giorgi Jincharadze, Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia and Chairman of the Temporary Commission on Restoration of Territorial Integrity and Deoccupation Issues, Giorgi Volski.
Giorgi Gamisonia graduated from Saberio village of Gali district of occupied Abkhazia region and passed the unified national exams successfully. Currently, he is a student of Grigol Robakidze University, and as a scholar of Dimitri Gulia for the academic year 2025-2026, he will receive 600 GEL monthly for four years.
The Dimitri Gulia and Costa Khetagurov Scholarships were established in 2018 on the initiative of the Minister of State and with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth, and are designed for students living in the occupied territories who show the best results in the combined national exams.
From the academic year 2025-2026, all students will receive an increased scholarship of 600 GEL per month.
