Giorgi Khanishvili, the first deputy minister of environment protection and agriculture, together with the head of the National Food Agency, Zurab Chekurashvili, met fruit farmers in the Samegrelo region.
Giorgi Khanishvili visited the gardens of the farmers of the Nut Producers Association in the village of Ingir and heard detailed information about the implemented measures.
“It is necessary to use the dry period and eliminate the problem created by the incessant rains with active medicines. Recommendations are issued by consulting centres, as well as the National Food Agency and the Association of Nut Producers. I think that taking into account these advices, the recommended three drugs, including the one against the Asian pheasant, will really allow us to maintain a quality harvest and export potential”, said Giorgi Khanishvili.
As the farmers mentioned, despite the difficulties caused by the bad weather, they have already resumed the cultivation of the areas according to the scheme established by the specialists, in which they are assisted by agro consultants; Poisoning machines are also available, which the National Food Agency gave to the Nut Growers Association.
Giorgi Khanishvili met with Giorgi Guguchia, State Commissioner of Samegrelo Region, and representatives of local municipalities. At the meeting, they discussed measures to fight pheasant and existing challenges.
According to the head of the National Food Agency, Zurab Chekurashvili, the agency is taking all measures to reduce the number of pests to a minimum. The importance of the involvement of local self-governments in the process of communication and informing with the population was emphasized.
