The First Deputy Minister, Giorgi Khanishvili, thanked the USDA Department of Statistics for its many years of assistance in strengthening statistical capacity in Georgia, as evidenced by the conduct of various training and technical support by international experts.
At the meeting, the needs and challenges in terms of the production of statistics in the field of agriculture in Georgia were discussed, and issues of future cooperation were discussed.
Moreover, the First Deputy Minister spoke about the state project of systematic land registration, which aims to create comprehensive cadastral data on real estate in the country, encourage registration of private land and thus promote the development of the real estate market.
The conversation focused on the registration of all small entrepreneurs engaged in agricultural activities throughout Georgia, which will enable the state to have statistical information for the correct selection of target groups and to plan and implement various incentive projects as needed.
As Sarah Hoffmann, an expert with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Statistics Office, noted, the USDA will continue to assist the Georgian National Statistics Office in compiling quarterly surveys. These studies provide the basis for the production of national and regional data.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Statistics Service David Luckenbach, Shoshana Griffith and Vito Wagner.
