The Georgian National Agency (GNA) for the Protection of Cultural Heritage unilaterally terminated the contract with Java Construction Ltd, which won the tender for rehabilitating the Gergeti Trinity Church Complex due to significant violations by the contractor. At the same time, the agency also charged the executing company with paying a bribe.
Specifically, several monitorings by the agency showed that the company that won the tender was being carried out with significant schedule violations, so the agency warned the contractor several times in writing and called him to manage the work accordingly. Also, the agency ordered Java Construction LLC to pay a bribe on July 8 due to violating scheduled deadlines.
Despite the mention, one of the main works specified by the project – the construction of the roof on the Cathedral, which was supposed to start on April 25, 2024, according to the agreed schedule, did not begin until the termination of the contract (August 2, 2024). The materials needed to carry out the roofing works required to be mobilized.
In view of the above-mentioned, due to non-fulfillment of its obligations under the contract, on August 2 of this year, the agency unilaterally terminated the contract signed with “Java Construction” Ltd. on February
27, 2024, and ordered the company to pay a fine of 73 680 Gel.
