Tbilisi: The Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission has organized the conference on International Week of Consumer Rights. The Member of SEMEC, Maia Melikidze, gave a speech at the university reception held within the framework of the First International Week of Consumer Rights, in which she spoke about the need to inform students about energy and water supply issues and consumer rights.

“As a member of SEMEC, a lecturer at the Caucasus University, Business and Technology University, I am glad that today’s meeting is attended by students and university representatives. It is very important to inform them about the rights of consumers in the energy and water sectors.

Semec has implemented a number of projects in the field of consumer rights, paying great attention to the enforcement of Commission decisions by the companies it served. For this purpose, we periodically implement the “Mystic Consumer” project, which clearly highlights consumer rights challenges. Our aim is to get more young students to be interested in SEMEC projects, and activities in the energy and water sectors.

Our colleague agencies have the same interest. This correctly sets the basis for today’s event organized by six agencies within the International Week of Consumer Rights”, Maya Melikidze said in her speech.

On March 13-17 the first international week of consumer rights is organized in Georgia by GNERC, National Competition Agency, Communications Commission, National Bank, State Supervision Service and National Food Agency. During the week, regulatory agencies will discuss sectoral consumer rights reforms, results received, existing challenges, enforcement mechanisms, effective consumer awareness campaigns and international events.

The conference will be attended by representatives of organizations and companies working on consumer rights protection. The conference will host a panel discussion on consumer rights protection and enforcement mechanisms.
