Georgia: Leri Khabelov, the President of the National Olympic Committee of Georgia (GNOC) wished the citizens a very happy and a blessed new year. He wished the citizens via his Facebook post.
Leri Khabelov is a Georgian politician who is also a former Soviet Olympic champion in Freestyle wrestling. In 2012, he was elected to the Parliament of Georgia on a ticket of the Georgian Dream party.
According to the minister, the last year was very special and victorious for all the Georgians, especially for the sportspersons.
He wrote, “2024 has been memorable and successful in many ways for our country, especially for Georgian sport.”
Khabelov mentioned that in 2024 they achieved significant results in several major international competitions, adding new achievements to their sports history.
According to him, all this was made possible by the efforts of each organization involved in this process, first of all – the dedication of the athletes and coaches themselves, with the support of numerous sports partners and fans.
Leri Khabelov also discussed the achievements of the Georgian Olympic delegation at the Paris Olympic Games 2024. He declared that they achieved great success which showed a historic result. They won 3 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medal, and ranked 24th among 206 countries in the team standings.
According to the GNOC President, Georgians have achieved their ultimate goal which is scaling a new Olympic height. And by all parameters, it is the best indicator of independent participation in the Olympic games.
He also wrote, “Each next Olympic cycle sets us new objectives and, therefore, presents us with new challenges.“
“For the next three and a half years, we are expecting Winter and Summer Olympic Games, Youth Olympic Games, European Games, European Youth Olympic festivals, including Bakuriani Winter Festival, ” Khabelov mentioned in his recent post.
He also highlighted the ” Fire of Peace” which will be lit in Bakuriani on February 9, 2025, and he also mentioned that young athletes from 46 European countries will fight for the medals of the festival.
He hopes that, just like with the 2015 Summer Olympic Festival, they, as hosts, will pass this exam successfully. Christmas and New Year are first of all about new hopes, and belief in a better future and fills them with optimism.
At last, he concluded by wishing fulfillment of hopes, optimistic mood, happiness, kindness, and victories for all the Georgians in the year 2025.
