BRETI, GEORGIA: Goldwind, the Chinese turbine manufacturer, has finished putting up the last of the six turbines at the Breti Wind Power Project in Georgia. Once complete, the site will have a total capacity of 43.2 MW, adding a meaningful new authority of clean power to the national framework
Vento Energy is the developer behind the project. Each of the six Goldwind GWH182-7.2MW machines is rated at 7.2 MW, and the whole establishment took 53 days from start to finish. The team says it kept to its safety and quality standards throughout, even with a demanding program and heavy lifting work on site.
Building in Hilly Country
Wind projects in Georgia are not easy to develop . Large parts of the country are hilly, so units have to deal with uneven ground and wind conditions that can change from one seam to the next. Just getting very long blades and heavy tower sections up narrow, winding roads to the site is a major task in itself. All of this calls for careful planning and accurate coordination between the manufacturer, the developer and the local teams.
Breti is also the first project in Georgia to use Goldwind’s GWH182 platform. That makes this the first time the model has been used in the country, and it gives local engineers and operators early first-hand experience with the technology.
Getting the turbines up is a big construction breakthrough , but the project is not finished yet. It still has to go through testing and deligation before commercial operation can begin, and those steps will decide when the wind farm starts delivering electricity to customers.
Goldwind says it has secured nine wind projects in Georgia since it entered the market in 2024. Together they add up to 438 MW, which shows how quickly the company has built up its presence in the country in a short time.
With energy security and change high on many countries’ agendas,Breti is another sign of wind power’s growing role in Georgia’s energy mix. As more projects like this move from construction into action , they could help the country build less on imported energy and make better use of its own natural resources.
